Proactive Behavior and Classroom Management

PBIS is an evidence based, school wide system/framework to teach and positively reinforce behavior within our school. It focuses on creating and sustaining an environment for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behaviors through a collaborative team approach. PBIS takes a preventative/proactive approach to classroom management, as opposed to a reactive approach.

Through PBIS, we aspire to teach all students to conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful  manner, while working hard and putting SOAR expectations first. This means we reinforce the behaviors of  students who are following our school expectations and provide support in a positive manner to the  students who may need extra assistance in following school rules and expectations. SOAR expectations set  the standard for student expectations throughout the campus while also establishing a common language.

What does SOAR mean?

Safety
Ownership
Attitude to Achieve
Respect

Each area of our school has specific expectations aligned to SOAR. When students are reminded to,  “Show SOAR behavior,” they are reminded to show safety, ownership, an attitude to achieve, and to be  respectful. In this handbook, you will find the SOAR poster, along with teaching points, that articulate what  is expected of all students across the campus. EES staff are expected to teach and reinforce these  expectations to all students.
